How Much Does It Cost To Replace Windows?

When homeowners start planning a renovation, replacing old windows is often near the top of the list but at the bottom of the list as well usually due to the expense. New windows of course can improve energy efficiency, increase curb appeal, reduce drafts, and even raise the value of a home. but one question we hear all the time is: “How much would it cost to replace all the windows in my house?” The answer might surprise you (at least here at Hetch’s)…

How Many Windows Does the Average Home Have?

Most single-family homes in the United States have between 10 to 20 windows, with the average home typically falling around 15 windows. Of course, larger homes may have 25+ windows, while smaller homes may only have 8 to 10. For comparison purposes, we’ll use 15 windows as our average.

What Does a Typical Window Cost?

A standard white vinyl single-hung window with a nailing flange and screen from a traditional building supplier or big-box retailer often costs between $350-$600 per window, depending on size an manufacturer. Us9ng a conservative average of $475 per window, here’s what replacing all the windows in an average home might cost:

  • 15 windows x $475 each = $7,125

  • 20 windows x $475 each = $9,500

And that’s before installation costs are added and other materials.

How Hetch’s Window Pricing Compares

We are in the process of bringing in about 7,000 windows that are brand new white vinyl windows. They’re all matching units, with screens, nailing flanges, most in factory packaging, etc. It was just an overstock buyout! Our average price per window is $205 (prices ranging from $175 to a max of $250 per window).

What Would an Entire House Cost Using Our Windows? If you did an average home with 15 windows, you would be looking at only $3,075 - a savings over $4,000 on average!!!!

The Bottom Line

Replacing all the windows in an average home is a major investment. At typical retail pricing homeowners can easily spend $7,000 to $10,000 on windows alone before installation. By purchasing quality vinyl windows at discount pricing, homeowners can often cut those material costs nearly in half while still getting brand-new windows with screens, nailing flanges & matching sizes. With all of our windows coming in from the start of June through July, its the perfect time to tackle that window replacement project and keep more money in your pocket.
